The capital’s Mayor General Ion Ceban said that the Center will become the biggest project for modernization of the waste management infrastructure in Moldova.
At the first stage, works are underway to re-profile and compact the base of the landfill, as well as to build access roads. Detailed studies are being carried out on the amount of biogas to be produced here.
In parallel, construction of infrastructure for the future waste transshipment station, which will include a modern sorting line, continues at the second site. At present, the removal of the vegetation layer has been fully completed during the excavation phase, and the soil has been stockpiled for subsequent reuse.
The contract for the reclamation of the former landfill site is worth €3.9 million, and for the construction of the transshipment station with a sorting line – €8.2 million.
The project is implemented by the international consortium JV WATT-GOL, consisting of companies from Greece and Turkey, under the supervision of the technical consulting company LIV Engineering. The expected completion date is July 2026.
The Chisinau Municipal Solid Waste Project is financed by the Chisinau City Hall, the EBRD, the EIB and the Eastern European Energy Efficiency and Environment Partnership (E5P) Fund. The total budget of the project is about 26 million euros.
